What You’ll Need: The DD-214

To access VA burial benefits and military honors, the veteran’s DD-214 form (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) is the most important document. This is the official record of the veteran’s military service and discharge status. When you contact Cremation Source, our staff will help you locate this document if it is not immediately available. If the DD-214 cannot be found, we can assist you in requesting it through the National Personnel Records Center. Do not let a missing DD-214 delay arrangements — we handle this regularly and know exactly how to help.

It is one of 155 national cemeteries maintained by the National Cemetery Scheduling Office and provides burial services for eligible veterans and their dependents. Burial Allowances & Financial Assistance

Some veterans may be eligible for VA burial allowances to help offset funeral and cremation costs. Eligibility is based on the cause of death, whether the veteran was receiving VA pension or compensation at the time of death, and other factors. Cremation Source can help your family determine eligibility and submit the appropriate VA Form 21P-530 (Burial Benefits Application). We are familiar with this process and will guide you through it step by step.
